The Israel Breakfast Bounty

“Farm to Table” may be a relatively new concept to most of the world, but in Israel, the idea goes back to the beginning of the modern state.

This is most evident in the Israeli breakfast – a giant buffet of farm-fresh eggs, salads, fruit, pastries, breads, cheeses, dairy products, smoked fish – that delights travelers at hotels throughout the country. The tradition began in the early days of the 20th century on the kibbutz. Kibbutzniks would go out to the fields at the crack of dawn to work before the heat of the day, and they’d return home at 9AM to eat a giant breakfast of their local produce. Way back in the 1930s, the concept was adopted by Israel’s budding hotel industry.
